Abstract: According to the Action Programme for 2008, the General Secretariat prepared this document in order to present an updated view on 31 October of the international negotiations of the ALADI countries. This summary presents the current situation of the last ministerial meeting of the WTO, mainly regarding two main issues of the Doha Round: agriculture and industry products. Additionally, the document presents information about the negotiations of the agreements of the ALADI countries with third countries or with other regions, especially, about the suspension of the negotiations for the signing of an Economic Association Agreement between the Andean Community (CAN) and the European Union (EU); the conclusion of the negotiations of a FTA between Colombia and Canada; the conclusion of the negotiations of the FTA between Peru and Colombia with the EFTA; the development of the fourth, fifth and sixth negotiating round between Peru and China for the signing of a FTA; the signing of a FTA between Chile and Australia, as well as the state of the negotiations between Chile with Turkey and with Malaysia for reaching both FTAs; the beginning of the negotiations of the FTA between Chile and Vietnam; about the proposal by the European Union for Mexico to establish a Strategic Partnership; about the conclusion of the negotiations between the MERCOSUR and SACU for reaching an agreement on fixed preferences; and about the Additional Protocol to the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement signed between Uruguay and the United States. |
